World War 2 Podcast Play instructions

6th Grade Theater Standard 1: Playmaking The student will plan and improvise plays based on personal experience and heritage, imagination, literature, and history for informal and formal theatre

Ed Tech Standard:Use general purpose productivity tools and peripherals to support personal productivity, to remediate skill deficits, and to facilitate learning throughout the curriculum

The students will have to use their creative skills to show what they have learned in our recent WWII unit. It will also literally put the kids in the shoes of the people, giving them a small understanding of what it was like for them.

Story structure


Language Arts 2nd Grade S5-Describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.

Ed Tech standard 5:Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring, presentation, web tools, digital cameras, scanners) for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom.

This will help kids better understand what makes a story. As kids better understand the structure of a story they will be more successful in reading and writing. Many times kids don't get past the background part of a story but this gives kids the knowledge that it does get more exciting.

2nd grade social studies S3O1 :Identify community traffic signs and symbols, and know their meanings (e.g., stop sign, hazard symbols, pedestrian crossing, bike route, recreational, blind or deaf child signs).

Ed tech standard 8:Use technology resources (e.g., calculators, data collection probes, videos, educational software) for problem-solving, self-directed learning, and extended learning activities

Knowledge of the common signs and their meanings will keep students safe and teach them what to look out for when they are in the community or away for familiar areas.

Ecosystems


3rd Grade Social Studies Standard 1 objective 2: Describe the major world ecosystems (i.e. desert, plain, tropic, tundra, grassland, mountain, forest, wetland)

Tech Standard 6 Use telecommunications efficiently and effectively to access remote information and communicate with others in support of direct and independent learning and for pursuit of personal interests

I want my students to be excited about the world, to want to discover the world.
The world has so much variety and each ecosystems presents it's own challenges and strengths. Knowledge of the different ecosystems can keep them safe and to be more compassionate to others and the challenges that they face because of where they live.

Explain the steps of the Scientific Method
Ed tech standard 6:Use telecommunications efficiently and effectively to access remote information and communicate with others in support of direct and independent learning and for pursuit of personal interests.

Big idea:Understanding of each step and being able to use reason and evidence to reach a conclusion.
Statement of Need: The Scientific Method is such a foundation skill that is used all through life and education. It also teaches students how to reason and to better understand how the world works.

Living vs Non-living Things Presentation

Science 3rd Grade Standard 2:Students will understand that organisms depend on living and nonliving things within their environment. 

Tech Standard 5: Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring, presentation, web tools, digital cameras, scanners) for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom.

Knowing living vs. non-living erases mysteries of nature and provides kids with answers of why things are the way they are.

Social Studies 6th Grade Standard 1 Objective 2:Identify key tenets of the major world religions (i.e. Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism)

Tech Standard 8:Use technology resources (e.g., calculators, data collection probes, videos, educational software) for problem-solving, self-directed learning, and extended learning activities.

There is such a large variety of people and what they believe. Beliefs affect culture. They change people, understanding what people believe can help us learn from them and better understand why they do the things they do.
